5. This view from Saint Bernard’s Church in Wengen. Wengen is a pretty town perched above Lauterbrunnen, which means inevitably it has some excellent views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley to offer. My personal favourite is the view from the Evangelisch Reformierte Kirche Wengen.
It takes about 2 1/2 hours from Lauterbrunnen up to Murren and abouty 4 1/2 hours from Murren up to the Schilthorn. If you are staying in Lauterbrunnen there are some relatively easy hikes on the Wengen side of the valley as well. They have the advantage of being close to the rail line so if you find out the hike is more strenuous than you The walk to the restaurant at Schynigge Platte is less than 5 minutes and paved. If she can’t do that amount of walking I’d suggest Wengen is really not a good location, as it would require at least that amount of uphill/downhill walking to get to and from lodging/train station. Step 2: Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp (Cable Car / 5 minutes) Same as above – once you are in the valley, take a 5 minute cable car up from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp. The cable car station is right outside of the train station and can’t be missed. Step 3: Grutschalp to Murren (Mountain Railway / 15 minutes) If you are on the Lauterbrunnen and Wengen side, it is best to take the cogwheel train. From Lauterbrunnen it takes about 38 minutes to get to Kleine Scheidegg by Wengernalp Railway. The trains usually run every half hour in the main season. From Grindelwald you can also take the train to Kleine Scheidegg, the trip takes about 32 minutes. Edelweiss Restaurant ★★★. This restaurant has the best views in town, with the valley floor plunging beneath you, and paragliders passing by every few minutes. This is a must-do in Murren, and a perfect place to take a break from this 1-day Lauterbrunnen itinerary. Address: Rauft 1068, 3825 Mürren, Switzerland.
